Nutrition, connection, and care

Meals on Wheels mobilizes 5,000 community programs to deliver nutritious meals and social connection to more than 2 million seniors every year.

Rather than serving food directly, the nonprofit equips local meal providers with funding, advocacy, and research to help their aging neighbors.

As Meals on Wheels expanded, its websites became cluttered and limited by outdated technology. To keep pace, it needed two new platforms:

  • A public-facing site to spark giving, raise awareness, fuel advocacy, and help seniors find meals.
  • A secure, member-only site where local meal programs log in to access grants, knowledge, and support.

The result: Two mission-driven, WordPress websites that not only strengthened fundraising and advocacy, but also made it easier than ever for seniors and volunteers to match with local programs.

One site for donors, advocates, and seniors alike

  • Simplifies the donation experience to make giving easy and visible.
  • Showcases impact stories and success narratives to inspire support.
  • Clarifies the organization’s top priorities with compelling messaging.
  • Restructures the research library to make browsing faster.
  • Drives advocacy actions, such as contacting lawmakers.
  • Connects seniors and volunteers to their local meal providers through an easy-to-use, ZIP Code based lookup tool.

Stories of independence and dignity

With adaptable publishing tools, Meals on Wheels tells visually engaging stories that inspire people to act.

Beautiful and functional on mobile

The Meals on Wheels site uses responsive page layouts optimized for every screen size, from mobile to desktop.

A private site for meal providers

  • Reduces barriers to signing in.
  • Revamps the grants page for clarity on timelines, requirements, and funding.
  • Increases the visibility of lesser-known benefits, including discounts on kitchen supplies.
  • Centralizes resources such as research, conferences, online learning, and a member community.
  • Applies a unified design system that ties the two sites together without making them identical.

The tech under it all

  • Provides tiered site administrator roles to ensure editors can manage only the content assigned to them.
  • Enables staff to edit both sites within a single CMS. They can also enter content once and publish it on both sites, which saves time and improves accuracy.
  • Improves site user access to more than 10 different SaaS platforms through a single, unified experience.
  • Anticipates flexibility to accommodate potential SaaS platform changes during the project.
  • Rebuilds the Find Meals and Volunteer tools with CRM integration.
