The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) seeks fundamental knowledge about the brain and nervous system to reduce the burden of neurological disease. Through funding opportunities, clinical trials, and public education, NINDS is working towards helping to better identify, treat, and prevent these types of diseases. Teal partnered with NINDS to revamp their web presence with a new visual design.
NINDS had strict requirements around accessibility and color contrast. We conducted a color-blindness study to ensure the updated brand palette passes color contrast ratio guidelines.
Though neurological disorders are a serious topic, we were able to introduce vibrancy and interest to the design through a bright color palette, bold iconography, and hexagon design motif. We also wanted to make it as easy as possible for site visitors to find specific disorders, so we introduced a 'quick search' module right on the homepage. The NINDS site also adheres strictly to WCAG 2.0 and Section 508 guidelines for accessibility.
