The State Policy Action Lab (State PAL) is a project of the Institute for Women’s Policy Research aimed at connecting research to policy solutions in advancing economic equity for women. It tackles four different issue areas: Equitable Work and Wages, Reproductive Justice and Health Equity, Caregiving and Families, and Education and Career Advancement.
Teal designed and developed the State PAL website which allows advocacy organizations, policymakers and their staff, and researchers to explore data and policy by state. It provides them with comprehensive and up-to-date research that helps them advocate for gender equity, craft effective and informed policies, and analyze trends and differences across gender, race, and ethnicity.
Data for each issue is broken down into multiple indicators, demographics, and gender. State PAL also tracks policy solutions addressing the issue, their definition and what the policy landscape looks like today, IWPR’s recommendations, and what bills in session oppose or support the solution.
All data, compiled and managed with IWPR’s systems, is uploaded directly to WordPress with all tables and visualizations automatically generated based on that uploaded data. This includes demographic information, indicator data, as well as legislative policy tracking.
This method of implementation allows for efficient management of the entire site with minimal administrative overhead. IWPR staff can make adjustments to 50+ pages with just a few changes to a single page template, and refresh all displayed tables and visualizations by uploading new spreadsheets generated by their data team.
