Columbia University's Global Freedom of Expression initiative undertakes and commissions research and policy projects and contributes to global debates on the protection of freedom of expression and information. Global Freedom of Expression partnered with Teal to establish the primary website for the initiative, which features a robust online database of freedom of expression case law.

The case law database surveys jurisprudence around the world, critically reviews exemplary cases, engages in comparative analysis, and aims to identify national, regional and global trends. Users can filter the database by case decision year, region, country, theme, mode of expression, judicial body, type of law, decision direction, and global perspective.
