I Am Evidence is a film produced by Mariska Hargitay that exposes the alarming number of untested rape kits in the United States. Through a character–driven narrative, the film brings much needed attention to the disturbing pattern of how the criminal justice system has historically treated sexual assault survivors. The filmmakers knew that they wanted to create a website for the film that didn’t just preview the movie — the site needed to drive action to end the rape kit backlog.

That’s when they turned to Teal.

The homepage design for the I am Evidence website is featured. It includes a full bleed image of an evidence room with the logo over top. Then there is a collage of women’s faces and their handwriting in black and white. There is a horizontal, bright orange strip of evidence tape. The website design includes various components like a timeline or an image with text alongside it. There are yellow buttons that the users can click on. There are also icons like a video camera and message bubble with typography underneath.

No One Should Wait for Justice

Site visitors bare witness to facts around the disturbing number of untested rape kits around the country and are urged to take action for survivors to end the wait for justice.

The site features:

  • An embedded looping background video from the film that pans across shelf after shelf of untested rape kits
  • A custom collage introduces the film and highlights the faces and stories of the four survivors
  • A bold and clickable component where visitors can easily see where the film is playing near them
  • Staggering statistics of untested rape kits
  • A featured testimonial from Mariska Hargitay, who has made ending the backlog her life’s work
  • Simple, yet effective icons and CTAs where people can get involved in a number of ways
  • Helpful resources to survivors, lawmakers, and the media
  • A ‘sticky’ action bar in the footer of the site, so the visitor can take action at a moment’s notice

In addition to building the website, Teal also created supporting materials to deliver the message of the film across a variety of media channels in a consistent, compelling, and motivating way.
