AIGA Design Continuum Fund

A brand that inspires the creative leaders of tomorrow to make their mark.

THE GOAL

  • The design industry often lacks diversity. The AIGA DC Design Continuum Fund (DCF) is helping change that.

    DCF is an annual merit-based scholarship program that supports young designers in the DMV area by offering them financial assistance to pursue their design education, specifically for those from underrepresented or economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

    DCF needed to inspire more students to apply and to engage a broader base of donors, ultimately strengthening their ability to support the creative leaders of tomorrow. Teal took on the challenge pro-bono as this cause is close to our creative hearts.

    Language that hits the mark

    Key audiences included prospective students, prospective donors, and art/design educators. By distilling audience needs through working sessions, we laid out a clarifying messaging framework, which included a new vision, core pillars, and a mantra/tagline.

    A big and bold brand that belongs everywhere

    The resulting brand is bold, flexible, and optimistic. The logomark is stamp-like through a customization of the font, Climate Crisis. A visual continuum is created through the strong circular geometry of the letterforms as they merge together.

    Across lay-outs, the Climate Crisis font fills and takes up space through short and punchy headlines. It finds balance through contrasting type pairings: a narrow subhead font, Bricolage Grotesk, and a legible body-font, Golos Text. This reclamation of literal space through typography embodies the impact that DCF scholars make on the creative industry: their voices belong; the brand is big, loud, and proud to match.

    For ease of use, we built a ready-made asset library of repeated patterns and textures that can be placed as backgrounds. The brand-kit, brand guide, and editable templates empower DCF to easily implement their brand and attract new scholars for years to come.
