The Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) supports communities in 18 countries around the world, primarily in South and Central Asia, sub-Saharan Africa, and the Middle East. Their work reaches millions of people every year through interconnected focus areas that are essential for addressing the root causes of poverty and improving the quality of life. AKF partnered with Teal to completely reimagine their web presence, creating a site that inspires an emotional connection to the transformative and mission-driven nature of AKF’s global work, and makes it easy for the AKF communication team to disseminate the stories that bring the crossing-cutting aspect of their work to life.
One of the key goals of this project was to introduce a new narrative that highlights the fact that each of AKF’s priorities is connected to the others. Teal introduced thoughtful new ways of presenting content through focus area hubs, interactive maps, and individual country pages to better highlight those connections.
One main feature of the WordPress CMS is the ability to attribute specific impact statistics to the right focus area. We created an animation widget that allows AKF to assign impact percentages to each focus area, right in the CMS.
One of the AKF’s team’s biggest wishes was for a fuller suite of storytelling modules that allow them to tell the stories of what is happening on the ground in a variety of ways, from large editorial digital narratives, to quick hit press moments Teal gave their team the flexibility within one template to do that, and everything in between.
By putting these various modules and interactive components to work, the AKF website now truly serves as hub of communication and connection across all of AKF’s countries, programs, and initiatives. With their new tools, the AKF team is able to quickly and consistently present compelling evidence for their work, mission and purpose.
